Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas from our family! We got dressed up in sweaters to give the illusion of winter even though it was plenty warm. It was a Christmas miracle that we got Ethan to look at the camera and smile while it was on self timer (seriously...no Photoshop on this one!) Click the photo to print a big one.

Ethan Meets Santa: Round 2

Well after much grooming (multiple weekend passes by Santa's Workshop at various malls), Mommy finally got Ethan to sit on Santa's lap. Upon sitting, Ethan said "I want a lollipop" to which Santa replied, "What do you want for Christmas?". Ethan, clearly fixated on the candy canes in a jar next to Santa reiterated "I want a lollipop...and an airplane...and pajamas." From the photo you can tell he was thrilled.

Sledding in Seal Beach

One of the beaches where Liz teaches puts up large sand berms to prevent the ocean waves from washing up into beachfront homes. The Stroller Strides class went sledding (on boogie boards) on them and had a great time. Click the photo for a large version of the photo with Ethan and Mommy.

Happy Halloween

So Ethan has been fascinated with Halloween for months and luckily didn't throw a fit when provided a costume that wasn't his first choice. He's been learning all about ghosts, witches, pumpkins, skeletons, monsters, etc. via books, newspaper ads, etc. For weeks he said he wanted to be a ghost and we had the face paint and white hairspray all ready but then found great fireman and pirate costumes 50% off at Old Navy. The fireman ended up being very topical with all the wildfires we had recently. A week prior to Halloween, Ethan started saying that he wanted to be a lion!

Decorating the house was fun too. We got window decals and Ethan helped put them up but the funny thing was that the dozen or so stars that came with the pack, Ethan put them in a straight line underneath a spider instead of having them all dispersed...could be early signs of OC.

Anway, the fireman costume worked fine and he and I ended up trick-or-treating for almost two hours in the dark neighborhood. He was a little scared once we tried to go to a scary decorated house and I didn't think the whole thing was going to last very long but then he had an epiphany and said "Ethan want more candy" and started going right on up to doors. He said "Happy Halloween" and "Thank you".

New camera for mommy

Liz got tired of all the other moms in Stroller Strides having cameras that were small enough to fit in their bags. We ended up getting the Panasonic DMC-TZ3 because it was small but had enough features to keep me happy too such as:
  • 10x wide angle (28-280mm equiv.) lens
  • Image stabilization
  • 3" LCD screen
  • ability to take video comparable to a video camera

Brett's job update

Well, I just finished a 4-month tour of duty working on an antenna for the new Mobile Satellite Ventures satellites which are to provide satellite-based mobile phone coverage with typical cell-phone sized units. You can check out a picture or video. The 1.5m reflector (and the whole satellite for that matter) looks wimpy compared to the 22m reflector which is being built by another company. Previously, we've never flown any reflector larger than 12m. So, now I'm back to new business juggling a half-dozen proposals at once but I enjoy it.

Nature Center Walk With Ethan

Well, probably around the time I was learning that Liz was pregnant again, Ethan and I went to the El Dorado Park Nature Center and walked around the 2-mile trail which is impressive for a two-year-old. Here's a video!
